Bubble Wrap Background

Friends, I am barely under the wire trying to make Darnell's NBUS Challenge #10 using the bubble wrap option. I made my background last night, but it didn't turn out so well.  I think I put two much reinker on the bubble wrap (small bubbles).  And I really didn't use a good color combo either.  I smooshed it on five different photo papers, the only glossy paper that I had.  The first two were just awful - a dark mess that I might be able to use at Halloween.  Of the other three, two were passable and one marginal.  But none were dry this morning.  At different times during the day, I used my heat gun and paper towels and dry and/or blot the paper I disliked the least.  Finally, it was dry and I started my card.  Here it is:

My NBUS is the stamp, it's Close to My Heart, and I've probably had it for five years or more. It's embossed on white card stock.  I dusted some light brown chalk around the truck before cutting it with a stitched die.  I cut the bubble wrap pane with a stitched die also and mounted all to the card base.  This will go to man, and I will add a sentiment later.

613 Avenue Create Challenge #194 - Getting Sentimental

Hello, my friends!  Welcome to our February Challenge at 613 Avenue Create.  We have the option to use the color blue and make the sentiment the focal point. You'll want to see the DT projects.  They are great.  Here's my card:

I made my own background paper by using a sponge dauber to put the distress ink circles on white card stock. Then I blended the same distress ink all over the panel. I added baker's twine and a banner made from Washi tape. The sentiment was die cut from a paint chip. This is a clean and simple card for my grandson - big surprise there!

Ink: Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink
Die:  Kudos by Paper Smooches

Juke Box Birthday

This is the card I made for my husband's birthday. I had fun making it, although I had a few problems. I'll talk about that more later. He's an old school guy, so I made him an old school card. Notice that the card is sitting on a RECORD!!

I've had this Sizzix die for about a year and a half, so it's definitely NBUS. The sentiment was constructed from two NBUS stamp sets.

I made the white and black background paper by embossing white card stock with a dotted embossing folder. Then I attempted to use a brayer to put black ink on the raised dots. I tried 3 times. I never could get the ink to just cover the dots without covering the flat area of the paper. I decided to go with it, cutting down the paper and distressing the edges. I added some red stripes along the right side.

I always take pictures with a digital camera. But I decided to try my IPhone 5s (not planning to upgrade-LOL!) because I've seen on blogs that some folks use IPhone pictures. I loved the picture my IPhone took, but when I tried to upload it to my blog after editing it, the picture was sideways, even though it was straight in my picture folder.  (I had rotated the picture in the photo editing.)  I tried 4 times and never could get it straight. So I gave up and used a picture from my digital camera. I will have to investigate to find a solution to my problem with the IPhone picture...

Another Try at Hidden Word

I said I would try again, and I did...Here's my latest attempt at the hidden word technique. I saw so many great examples on Darnell's blog and on the internet that really inspired me to give it another go. This time I'm really pleased.

One thing that I would have done differently if I dared would have been to add some splatter.  I was really afraid that if I tried, I would mess up the image. As it was, this is my second rendition of this card. I inadvertently used some inky Post-It tape to hold down my die. When I removed the tape, there were several smudges on the panel - smudges that I couldn't hide. So I had to re-stamp another panel.

Anyhoo, I'm glad I persevered. It felt really good to finish this card. I only wish my photography and computer skills were better. I actually cropped the picture so the candle it's sitting on didn't show.  I did it twice, but even though I "saved" it, only the original picture showed up in my card folder.  So I gave up. Do you feel my pain????

Hidden Word ... Not

Hi, Friends!

Encouraged by Darnell at her blog, I decided to try the hidden word technique on this card.  That's what I started out to do, but it didn't work out. First, I'll show you my card, then I'll explain a bit more, although it's obvious from the picture that the word is not hidden.

After stamping the background using my MISTI, I die cut the upper portion. I also cut "believe" out of plain white card stock 3 times so I could layer it with the stamped portion on top. However, once I placed the stamped portion on top and inlaid it into the card, "believe" did not show up at all. It was too well hidden for my tastes so I decided to use only the plain card stock. That was too white, so I colored it with a Spectrum Noir marker and inlaid it. I also used my SN marker to edge the panel before layering in on the grey panel and, ultimately, the card base.  I thought it needed a wee bit of color, so I used a small heart punch and voila!

Colored Pencil on Kraft

Well, I decided to enter Darnell's NBUS Challenge #8 - using colored pencils on kraft. Now, let me tell you, this challenged me to no end!  I'm not very good at coloring with pencils at all.  But I settled into my craft room and gave it a try.

This card is actually my 4th and final effort. I colored a cupcake image and then two different flowers. They were all miserable failures so I tossed them. Finally, I tried a word image.  I'm not real pleased with it, but I got it done. And I'm pretty sure I won't be trying this technique again - seriously! I really envy my fellow crafters who can color beautifully with any medium - sigh!

My NBUS is the stamp from CTMH that I've had about 5 or more years, and the Darice heart die that I got about a month ago.

Card Base:  Pre-scored pad purchased from Tuesday Morning months ago
Other Papers:  My stash
Sequins & Washi:  My stash
Colored Pencils:  Crayola

613 Avenue Create #193 - Anything Goes-Option Totally Technical-Use Your Favorite Technique

Happy 2017, my crafty friends!  At 613 Avenue Create we're starting off the New Year by highlighting techniques. I've used the technique of oragami paper folding as the focal point of my card. My daughter-in-law recently got a new job in the fashion industry. To congratulate her, I decided to make a card. I didn't have any stamps that I thought were appropriate so I surfed the internet for ideas. I ran across a You Tube video (click here for video) on making an oragami dress and decided to give it a try. This technique is brand new to me, but I love how it turned out. The paper for the dress is a bit shiny so there's a slight glare in the photo. I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder which I had never used before on the card base. The sentiment is from a Cricut cartridge (I don't remember which one). A few sequins round out the design.

We are now a just for fun challenge with occasional prizes. We hope you join us monthly as our designers are free to use any medium or image we desire. Doesn't that sound like fun?

Are you making any resolutions for this New Year? I don't do that any more, mostly because I never seem to follow through for very long. I've decided to resolve to be the best me I can be. Nothing specific, but I'm determined to live my life fully and to be engaged every day.

Peace and Blessing, friends!
