Hidden Word ... Not

Hi, Friends!

Encouraged by Darnell at her blog, I decided to try the hidden word technique on this card.  That's what I started out to do, but it didn't work out. First, I'll show you my card, then I'll explain a bit more, although it's obvious from the picture that the word is not hidden.

After stamping the background using my MISTI, I die cut the upper portion. I also cut "believe" out of plain white card stock 3 times so I could layer it with the stamped portion on top. However, once I placed the stamped portion on top and inlaid it into the card, "believe" did not show up at all. It was too well hidden for my tastes so I decided to use only the plain card stock. That was too white, so I colored it with a Spectrum Noir marker and inlaid it. I also used my SN marker to edge the panel before layering in on the grey panel and, ultimately, the card base.  I thought it needed a wee bit of color, so I used a small heart punch and voila!

Card Base:  Create and Craft Hammered Card Stock
Other Papers:  Recollections
Stamp:  RubberNecker Music Background
Die:  Little Yellow Bicycle
Ink:  VersaFine Black Onyx
Marker:  Spectrum Noir IG5

  1. I love your card. It is such a beautiful design. I tried that technique and did not like the outcome of mine either. Oh, well....we both tried.

  2. Thanks for stopping by my blog. You are brave to try this technique and play with it until you got it right. I do like the hearts on it.

  3. I just got through working on my hidden word for the challenge Sheila. I think you would have liked it better if your design would have had some white space around it or would have moved the "believe" down in the grey area, so the "believe" would have been partially hidden. I do love how you saved this this beautiful card though and the pop of red hearts is fabulous! Love that stamp background you used too! Hugs, Brenda

  4. I know exactly how that went, Sheila! I'm posting my first effort at the hidden word technique tomorrow and it was a failure! I wanted to post it on Monday to share that it doesn't always work, but the darn post got so long. Anyway, this is how we learn and I'm so glad you salvaged your beautiful card! I think the pops of red were a great idea and they add so much interest!! Thank you so much for playing in my NBUS Challenge #9 and giving the hidden word option a try! And thank you for your email with your kind get well wishes and prayers! Hugs, Darnell

  5. Your explanation is loud and clear to me, Sheila! I love how you stamped the images with MISTI. The composition is fabulous along with your falling hearts. I think the hidden sentiment is perfect in this, not too hidden and not too obvious. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today! I truly appreciate your support and comments (as always!!).

  6. Your card is FAB-ulous! The hearts just pop on the subdued background, which is so elegant too! I like the way you've handled the sentiment, and it's not all that 'obvious', as Virginia above said. IMHO, it meets the hidden sentiment excellently. You've done some super work on this one, Sheila, and you can be so proud of it! The white believe doesn't 'jump' out at the eye, but it's also visible, which it might have been too hidden, if you'd not done it that way. I LOVE this! TFS &Hugs

  7. I can see why your word didn't show -- that cool background definitely would of overwhelmed it :)

  9. Your card is beautiful, I love all those gorgeous stamps working together. And sometimes crafting is about trying things that may work out or they may not, but then we just have to stretch our creative muscles a bit to find another solution. I'm glad you didn't give up on the card because of one setback, it's beautiful! Thank you for playing along with the STAMPlorations CAS Challenge. We hope to see you back again soon!
